About the Apple Tree Jam, as told by Walt, a few years back…

THE APPLE TREE GANG – by Walt

No, they don’t steal apple trees. Actually, they don’t steal anything, except the hearts of the audience. Simply put, they are a group of music loving performers, who play weekly, as much for their own enjoyment as anything else. The owners of the Rainbow Market have a grassy area and a large apple tree just beside the store. Music lovers themselves, they graciously encourage all country music performers and fans to utilize this area for playing and singing. Anyone is welcome to come and play, or simply listen.

The group is entirely informal; just folk who love playing. Almost every string instrument is represented, and one hears some surprisingly good music. The player’s sit in a sort of a rough circle, and each in turn performs, with the rest joining in on the chorus. Old, young, and all between participate in the frivolities. It is strictly volunteer; no one is paid or expects to be, except by the enthusiastic applause.

The event is strictly alcohol free; do not bring your bottle. Refreshments, snacks, etc., are available in the store at very reasonable prices. Although it isn’t mandatory, newcomers are encouraged to bring their own chairs. (And/or instruments.)

Where is it? On highway 49 north at the Rainbow Market.

When is it? Every Thursday night, weather permitting

(Note: in late spring and summer months only.  Please see the website www.appletreejam.com for info.)

Who is in charge? Nobody. It is not a formal affair with any rigid guidelines. Everyone is popular and congenial. You are encouraged to come and sing, play, or simply listen. It is virtually certain you will not be disappointed.
